Let’s Talk About Wedding Details

You might be wondering, what even are wedding details? Why are they important? And why do I need to have them photographed? Well there are many answers to these questions but let’s start out with:

What are the wedding details?

Wedding details are the little items that during the wedding plan didn’t seem like a huge deal but they still are part of your day and still very important in telling the story of your day. They are the things like your invites, dresses, shoes, perfumes, rings, other jewelry, heirlooms, gifts, vow books, and flowers. The men even have details (although not as many typically) but his details can include his watch, cufflinks, tie, gifts, or anything else that is important to him on his big day as well.

Why are the details important?

The wedding details are important for a couple of reasons, selfishly they are good for me as the photographer because they are typically the first thing I photograph so they offer a bit of a warm-up for me. They help me settle into the grove of the wedding day, get a feel for the vibes everyone has, and help me get my creative juices flowing. They are also an opportunity to work out any technical issues with my gear if there are any.

More importantly, though, they are important to you, this is your big deal and having these items photographed are a great way to help you remember all of the little things that went into your day and were important to you. You picked out everything when planning your wedding day, and highlighting and showing off all of that hard work in beautiful imagery is a great thing.

How do I prepare for the wedding details?

So now let’s help you get prepared for your wedding detail photos. It is always a big help to me as the photographer if all of your details are in a box together ready to go when I get there. Things like your invites, flowers, rings, hairpieces, other jewelry, and shoes are great items to start off with. If there are any little gifts, heirlooms or anything else that is important to you on your wedding day also set aside for me to photograph. There are no right and wrong items to have in your details box, if it’s important to you or important to the day, set it aside. I typically take 20-30 minutes to photograph all of the details, this is a great time for you to hang out, breathe, have the bridesmaids start getting their dresses on, and finish up any hair and makeup. This is a warm-up for me but maybe it can also be a designated “get into the mood” time for you as well. Because it’s officially beginning!

So, in conclusion, the wedding details are important for both you and me the photographer. They help tell the full story of your day and having them photographed is a great way to remember all of the little things. And they are good for me to warm up and get ready for the rest of my day!
