Fergus Falls Senior Session Locations

Senior Sessions are one of my favorite things to photograph as a photographer, I loved being able to capture personalities and create beautiful portraits for seniors to help them celebrate their upcoming graduation!

One thing that plays a part in senior session is your backgrounds, or locations. And finding locations or knowing good places to have your senior session can be a challenge. Especially on the surface of Fergus Falls, your hometown you see everyday and might seem boring, but you would not believe all of the hidden gems Fergus Falls has to offer!

So here are my Top 5 favorite Fergus Falls Senior Session locations for senior sessions

Number 1: Downtown Fergus Falls

Yes, downtown Fergus Falls is actually an amazing place to have your senior pictures taken. With all the historic buildings, brick walls, alleyways and even the river walk, downtown Fergus has a spot that everyone will love. You can get both more urban backgrounds or nature background all within a 5 minute walk of each other. Plus the new farmers market builiding has cute string lights hanging above it! You can so much variety in this small little area its actually mind-blowing.

Number 2: Pebble Lake Beach

Pebble Beach is a great location if you love lakes and sand and you want mostly nature as your background. Besides the lake there are stunning trees, walking paths and some tall grasses that are great for your senior session so, if wading around in the water during golden hour sounds like your vibe, keep this location in mind for your senior session.

Number 3: Kirkbride Park (Regional Treatment Center)

If you love the historical sites of Fergus Falls and want to incorporate those into your senior session Kirkbride Park is a fantastic location. With the historic (and huge) old regional treatment center in the background your pictures would for sure highlight Fergus history. Around this stunning building there are pretty trees, tall grasses behind the building and lots of nooks and other options to add some variety into your images.

Number 4: DeLagoon Park

Very similar to Pebble Lake Beach (literally on the other side of the lake) DeLagoon has tons to offer from tall grass spots, the boat launch, trees, and some nice pathways. But what I like about DeLagoon is the baseball/softball fields! I like this location for my athletes! There are open areas where we can photograph any sport from soccer and football or we can use the baseball fields for you fellow ball players! But don’t worry indoor sports players, we definitely can find a spot to incorporate your athletics as well, including taking your images at a basketball court or going to the school you play at!

Number 5: Grotto Park

Yes, you read that right Fergus locals, Grotto Park, the one with the big otter. Because who graduates as a Fergus otter and doesn’t want a picture with the big Otter?! Just kidding, I get it that’s a little over the top, although the Otter is cool (maybe?) that is not what I love about this locations. What I love about this location is the tall grasses with the wildflowers in them! This location is perfect if you do not want to travel outside of town and be photographed in a field of wildflowers! With a few camera angle tricks you would never know that you took your images in town and not a secluded field in the middle of nowhere!

A couple honorable mentions for locations in town are:

  • Lake Alice, a gorgeous little walk with tall trees that cover the street, wildflowers along the lake, and of course the cute little lake and historic homes surrounding it make a gorgeous backdrop for you senior pictures. Only downside is all the hissing geese (haha)

  • The river walk, I know I talked about this a little in #1 but the river walk is a great location just on it’s own as well! The nature walkway is so beautiful. There’s an old fence that is very photogenic, and at the end of path there is a building next to the river that is amazing for photos! (I even took my headshots here!)

There are so many super cool areas around Fergus Falls that I absolutely love and as I continue to explore Fergus Falls more I cannot wait to find more amazing locations to photograph at!
