Minnesota Backyard Wedding

I think I might have fallen in love with backyard weddings after this one. As an introverted photographer sometimes I get super drained after a long day at a 200+ wedding guest wedding. However when Margy and Michael reached out about their upcoming small, intimate backyard wedding I was so excited. It sounded completely like my cup of tea, and I have been itching to dip my toes into the intimate wedding and elopement world. And now I think I am hooked. There is just something so special about being so close with your guests, to actually get to talk to them. And to be able to breath and relax on your wedding day. Your wedding day should be about you, and your significant other. I think that is what I love most about intimate weddings, you can just be with your person, the whole day, and still get to talk to every single guest and just celebrate the love. Now this blog is not about bashing large weddings, for my own wedding I did both. On our actual wedding day we had a small group of 20 and we hung out at a Bed and Breakfast and then got married. Then later that week we through a huge reception and celebrated with the other 100+ people we love. But both “Traditional Weddings” and Intimate weddings have their own pros and cons. Maybe I’ll do another blog post about those differences one day.

But this blog post is about Margy and Michael and their special day. Now I met Margy’s daughters first originally, her oldest is good friends with one of my high school friends and her younger sister actually chose me to photograph her senior pictures last summer! (check out her blog post here). So when their mom reached out I was so excited to get to see the two sister’s again and now get to document their mom’s special day.

Something a little funny to me about Margy and Michael’s day is when I left Fergus Falls it was cold and cloudy, so I dressed for a cold and cloudy day since I knew their wedding was outside. Well I guess driving 3 hours south to St. Paul means that the sun will come out and you end up with a 70 degree day in October, and you’re wearing a turtle neck and fuzzy socks. So needless to say I was dressed a little too warm but that was a me problem.

Everything about Margy and Michaels day was perfect. Margy’s girls helped her get ready, did her hair and makeup and it was a really special moment between mother and daughters. (made me feel a little emotional) Honestly the moments like that when getting ready are what make me feel the most grateful and blessed for my job. Like what an honor to get to document those moments. In Margy and Michael’s backyard they have the most gorgeous tree, which was in it’s prime color stage during their big day and it was orange and stunning. They left all the leaves on the ground and the backyard was just perfectly “Minnesota Fall.” They did their first look in front of this tree and it was so beautiful. And it was perfect. After some portraits and family pictures guests started arriving. It was so special to get to meet some of these two’s closest friends and family. A beautfil and simple ceremony took place and everything was just so simple but perfect and you could feel the love between everyone there. Like I have said many times. I love my job, and I love getting to be invited into very important moments into people’s lives and documenting it.

Also before I wrap up, I need to mention that Margy and Michael did everything including cooking for everyone. Like what?! These two are truly amazing and I am soooo grateful I got to work with them and get to know them!

So here are some highlights of this gorgeous Minnesota Fall Backyard wedding.
