Adam and Jenn
Missoula Montana Wedding
I cannot BELIEVE I am writing a blog post about a Montana wedding! Photographing destination weddings has been my dream for so long and I am so THANKFUL that Adam and Jenn trusted me and allowed my dream to come true. A few years ago I went on a road trip with a friend of mine. We drove 26 hours out to the Pacific Northwest and part of our route was driving through Montana. It was during that trip that I fell in love with Montana and needed a reason to go back. The mountains are my happy place and I am so glad Adam and Jenn brought me back.
Adam and Jenn are one of those couples that you just know are perfect for each other. Even after just knowing them for an hour during their engagement session I knew they were a great team. They are one of those couples that just make everything feel easy and getting to know them and getting to photograph them has been such an honor. From Instagram messages back and forth about Pinterest inspiration, wedding advice and even about books we are reading. It was so fun getting to build a friendship with these two as well. And I am so grateful for their trust in me and even allowing me to practice filming my first offical wedding video! That added another challenge to their day and I was so excited to get to test my creativity in a new way!

Adam and Jenn’s wedding was so incredible and everything came together perfectly. But they had a bit of a bumpy ride. They originally were one of my Minnesota bookings. They also were originally getting married here in Fergus Falls, at Elk’s Point Bar and Grill, which if you have followed for awhile is where my wedding reception was! So I was super excited to photograph a wedding at the location I had my wedding celebration in! However after a job change that brought Adam and Jenn out to Missoula, they decided to move their wedding as well. And I am so thankful that they still allowed me to document their day.
Adam and Jenn had a gorgeous September day for their intimate wedding ceremony. Surrounded by their closest family and “Framery” (I think friend family is the mash-up here) they got married in the hills at Butler Creek Lodge. This beautiful cabin was the perfect venue for their wedding. Their friends and family were able to stay there with them and it was so fun being invited into their dynamic. This was such a fun group to get to hang out with. And even if they had just met each other I would have no idea because they all seemed like life-long friends. I think that is what makes intimate weddings so special. The ability to laugh and be with your friends, and your friends get to know each other, and then I in turn get to meet everyone and just relax into the natural dynamic versus feeling the rush and chaos of managing hundreds of people on a “traditional” wedding day.
Every little detail was so perfect and fit Adam and Jenn so well. When I saw the details they put together I was blown away. I had probably a little to much fun photographing their wedding details but everything was so well put together. I loved how intentional Adam and Jenn were with their wedding day. From making choices that are true to them and not what everyone wants them to be. Such as Jenn’s stunning dress, this was my first non-white dress and I was obsessed. It was so beautiful on Jenn and her veil was everything. The little things do matter when it comes to your wedding day. With custom vans and all the other personalized touches I caught myself multiple times throughout the day just thinking “wow they thought of everything.”
The personal touches didn’t just stop at their stationary and attire, Adam and Jenn are huge Harry Potter fans and so Jenn had cut out hearts from Harry Potter books to use for their aisle instead of flower pedals. They also have a stunning matching Harry Potter tattoo that lines up when they hold hands.
During the ceremony Adam and Jenn chose to have each one of their “groomsmen” to officiate. Each taking a section during the ceremony and making it special. It was very telling the kind of people these two are based on what their family said about them. I loved hearing what they had to say because you can really tell the love and appreciation that people have for knowing these two and having them in their life. Adam and Jenn also wrote personal vows to read to each other during their ceremony and you can hear in their words how much they love and admire one another. Circling back to earlier in this blog post, I mentioned how you can just tell after knowing these two for a short time how they are a great team. Hearing their vows was just more proof that these two are a perfect match.
After the ceremony everyone just got to hang out and enjoy being with each other and celebrating Adam and Jenn. We had first dances in the yard, when Adam’s parents also had a special “mash-up” dance. There was also axe throwing, competitive games of bags (cornhole if you aren’t Minnesotan) and running around with Pomona, their super cute pup. Adam and Jenn included some of our Minnesotan roots and Adam’s dad fried up some incredible walleye for dinner. I also wasn’t the only vendor who came from Minnesota. Adam and Jenn had another Fergus Falls local business Peney Cakes make their wedding cake and deserts. And Adam’s parents transported the cake with them on their trip out to Missoula (which was like 13 hours). I was so excited to get to have Peney cakes again as Jeney also made my wedding cake!
The night ever to quickly came to and end. But I loved getting to photograph Adam and Jenn’s intimate wedding in Missoula. Their images are some of my favorite and I am so excited to share them on the blog today!
