John’s Senior Session at Glendalough State Park

Seriously?! Where has the time gone! Believe it or not but I used to babysit John when he was younger and now here I am capturing his senior pictures probably 5-6 maybe even 7 years later! I am only 20 but man does that make me feel old! It was so fun catching up with John during his session and hearing how things are going with school and his plans after high school! Crazy how much he has grown since the last time I babysat him and chased him down the street barefoot in the middle of a Minnesota winter. Like seriously grown, he was taller than me then, but after taking these pictures and spending 90% of the time on my tiptoes just to get a good angle of this guy it really made me actually notice how much taller he has gotten— which was sort of a challenge for my around average height! I do not think he makes people chase him down the street anymore, as he has grown up to be an amazing kid, and I am so thankful they chose me to capture his senior pictures! This was my first time shooting a session at Glendalough State Park in Battle Lake, Minnesota but it has definitely become one of my favorite spots to shoot portrait sessions! When John reached out about doing his senior pictures, I was so excited, I love all of the trails and bridges that Glendalough has to offer! John and his family own a cabin located near the park and they were telling me all the stories of them growing up and kayaking the river that goes right through the park. They also were telling me about the time they got so lost in Glendalough that they ended up in the random tenting sites— way off the trail they began on! I loved hearing all the stories from this location and all the memories they share here.

John had such a gorgeous evening for his senior pictures, it was a little on the warmer side but once we started standing in the creek it definitely felt a lot cooler! We were able to have some amazing lighting— which is by far my favorite lighting I have had all summer I think. Really the only downside to John’s senior pictures were all the gnats that kept swarming his head! I may be the only one here, but I definitely think dealing with the bugs was worth it to get these images! I had an absolute blast during John’s session and I am so excited to share his images, I say this a lot but this set of images might be some of the favorites I have taken thus far.
