Cam’s Senior Session

Senior, Seniors, Seniors!!!! Its been a crazy senior season this summer and I feel like I can’t catch up. But it a good amazing way! I am so excited to be blogging my latest senior sessions and sharing all the amazing images we have been able to capture this year!

For Cam’s senior session I got to travel back to my old stomping grounds of Carver County Minnesota. For Cam’s senior session I was invited to his family home where I got to wander around their yard and find all the amazing spots they have created. It felt so bittersweet to be back in the area where I grew up and started my business. If you have been following for awhile you know that I started based out of Watertown MN which was only about 15 minutes away from where Cam and his family live! So after Cam’s session my husband and I drove by my childhood home. Drove past the waterfall where we got engaged and just looked at all the spots that are sentimental to me. So it was a nice travel day for this senior session.

Cam had the perfect August morning for his senior session. It wasn’t to hot and it was overcast outside. Something that some seniors get bummed out about is overcast for their senior session. However I wanted to take some time in this blog to talk about why overcast is actually AMAZING. Overcast lighting is a photographer's DREAM for senior sessions. It creates soft, diffused light because of the clouds, which eliminates harsh shadows and gives even illumination. This type of lighting is especially flattering for portraits because it makes blemishes less noticeable and gives a gentle glow that enhances the subject's features. Overcast lighting also allows for more options in choosing locations because there's no need to find shade or worry about direct sunlight. I love overcast days for senior sessions because of how flattering the light is and the how many more locations I can use. And with my editing style I eliminate the cold feeling you might expect with a cloudy day.

Photographing Cam’s session at his house, I did not know what to expect for location so having a overcast day was perfect so that I could use all the spots they loved without worrying about the lighting. It was so much fun getting to hear the stories of each spot and how they built the house up from the ground. Cam’s mom was telling me about different things about each spot or different items Cam found that made their backyard garden personal. That was my other favorite thing about Cam’s session was how personal it was. From photographing his images at home. Including his family in a few shots as well as his dog, it was really special and personal senior sessions just make my little photographer heart happy. I love when I get to include more peronalized images into a senior session to add that much more meaning to them!

Anyways :) here are Cam’s senior photos!
