Battle Lake Couples Session

Have I mentioned lately how much I love Glendalough State Park in Battle Lake Minnesota? Because WOW. One of my biggest struggles when relocating my business two years ago was finding new locations. I had a senior session that requested this state park and I have been hooked ever since. It’s easy to get too, with lots of incredible and versatile locations. And the lighting is always amazing. There is so much you can do at this park and it works for every type of session. But that’s enough rambling about how much I love this park, but if you book a session with me :) I will 100% recommend it to you.

Anyways, a blessing and a curse this busy season has been CHAOTIC and truthfully I have been so overwhelmed. Still working full time and filling my books has been the biggest challenge but I have loved every exhausting second of it. In the midst of chaos though, I have learned that you still need to take time for yourself. And to still allow your creative side out versus just going through the motions and shooting every session the same. So when my sister Paige asked me to do a couples session with her and her boyfriend I was so excited. It felt like the pressure was off and I could really have fun and try the new poses and prompts I have been dying to try but was to scared too. But here we are and this session was the best boost of creativity in the middle of this busy season. And through all the silliness and laughs these two had I went into my next sessions feeling refreshed and that I had my creativity back.

I do not normally shoot in blue hour lighting. However for this session due to work schedules this was the only time we could get together to shoot. And I might be obsessed now? Like I might like blue hour more than golden hour obsessed. Blue hour lighting is a photographer's dream come true. Occurring during the “twilight” period just before sunrise or after sunset. The sky takes on a deep blue hue. Blue hour lighting casts a soft, gentle glow, which is so flattering on your subjects. With my editing style blue hour allows me to really bring out the warm tones and get a dreamy feel to images.

After shooting a little later than I anticipated we quickly ran out of light. However for fun we decided to try out the headlights trend and I absolutely loved how they turned out. It was a bit of a challenge for me to figure out my settings for the headlight photos but in then I loved how they turned out and I cannot wait to bring more creative ideas to future shoots.
