My Approach to Elopements

Now transparency is something I value strongly so I will be completely honest here in the blog post. I have never shot a true elopement yet. An elopement is defined as “running away secretly to get married” in today’s wedding industry, elopements are also viewed as a very small, often just you and your person going on an adventure and getting married. I have photographed a handful of intimate weddings so not quite elopement size, but still quite small and they can be relatively similar. Sometimes today’s Instagram elopements, are still small intimate ceremonies with those closest to you.

I added elopements to my list of services because I love how genuine and true the couple's intimate weddings feel. A recent backyard wedding really opened my eyes to how much I love connecting with clients and being a part of their intimate day.

I try and take a different approach to elopements than I do with weddings. I do not want your elopement to feel like a 2-4 hour photoshoot. When preparing timelines and plans I don’t like to schedule things as much as I would a traditional wedding. For elopements and even intimate weddings, I like to take a more documentary journalistic approach. Photographing what is happening as it unfolds. Don’t take me wrong we will still take some time to take some epic bridal portraits, but I do not want your special day to be more about the photos you get and less about you.

When you first inquire with me, I like to start out with a questionnaire that will give me an idea of your vision. If you don’t quite have a vision that’s okay too! With weddings and elopements alike I can be as hands-on or hands-off as you’d like. So if you need help curating the perfect day, look no further, I can help you plan your day from start to finish. Or I can show up when you tell me to and you can kick me out when you're done. I want your day to be exactly how you want it to be.

Instagram stalking is something I am decently good at and can help find the perfect location for your elopement.
